Free digital learning resources for students with special educational needs now available in six languages

Matrix Internet is proud to join partners across Europe in announcing the public launch of the Atollo Resource Library, a free, multilingual collection of digital learning materials designed to support students with special educational needs.

Co-funded by the European Union’s Erasmus+ programme, the Atollo Project brings together partners from across Europe and beyond to make digital education more inclusive, accessible, and practical for learners with disabilities and learning difficulties.

The new Resource Library is now available at atolloproject.eu/resource-library and provides interactive, curriculum-aligned learning materials in six languages: Bulgarian, Croatian, English, German, Icelandic, and Norwegian. Hosted on the IZZI platform, the resources are free to access, require no registration or payment, and can be used instantly on standard digital devices.

Digital resources designed for every learner

The Atollo Resource Library has been developed to support a wide range of learning needs. The materials are organised across four differentiated learning levels, from students with profound and multiple learning difficulties through to those with specific learning difficulties working close to lower primary outcomes.

The resources focus on mathematical and digital competencies and are suitable for use in inclusive classrooms, special education settings, and at home with adult support.

Each resource has been created using Universal Design for Learning principles, with built-in accessibility tools including adjustable font sizes, dyslexia-friendly text, colour and contrast settings, audio narration, and subtitles. These features are designed to give teachers, students, and families greater flexibility in how learning materials are accessed and used.

Tested in real classrooms

A key strength of the Atollo Project is that the materials have not been developed in isolation. During an extensive pilot phase across Germany, Bulgaria, and Croatia, the resources were tested with 430 students, more than 100 teachers, and over 200 parents across 15 schools.

Classroom observations, teacher questionnaires, and focus groups helped partners understand how the materials worked in practice. The final Resource Library has been refined based directly on this feedback, ensuring that the resources respond to real classroom needs and support differentiated learning in meaningful ways.

Matrix Internet’s role in the Atollo Project

As Communications Lead for the Atollo Project, Matrix Internet has supported the project’s dissemination, digital communications, website content, campaign activity, and stakeholder outreach.

Our role has focused on helping ensure that the project’s work reaches the educators, families, schools, and organisations that can benefit most from these resources.

“We are proud to have played a role in sharing the Atollo Project’s work with educators, families, and stakeholders across Europe. The Resource Library is a practical example of what inclusive digital education can look like when accessibility, classroom experience, and collaboration are built in from the start. These free materials have the potential to make a real difference for teachers and learners, not only in partner countries but much further afield.”

A European partnership with lasting impact

The Atollo Project brings together expertise from universities, schools, specialist education settings, and technology partners. The partnership includes organisations from Bulgaria, Croatia, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Norway, Austria, and Australia.

The IZZI platform, developed by Profil Klett, hosts the structured, curriculum-aligned resources in mathematics and ICT. The pedagogical framework was designed by the University of Iceland and the University of Education Upper Austria, with contributions from all project partners.

By combining research, classroom testing, digital learning design, and accessibility expertise, the Atollo Project has created resources that can support more inclusive approaches to education across Europe.

Join the Atollo Project final conference

Educators, researchers, policymakers, and project stakeholders are also invited to attend the Atollo Project’s final conference, Breaking Barriers through Education, taking place on 14 May 2026 at the Coworking Center Pula, Croatia.

The event will bring together partners and invited guests to share insights from the project, explore the future of inclusive digital education, and reflect on the impact of the Atollo Resource Library.

Both in-person and online attendance options are available.
