Project Visit to Frankfurt: Focus Group Interviews and School Observations
Project Visit to Frankfurt Schools Overview
As part of the Atollo project, Lillian Gran, from the Inland Norway University of Applied Sciences and Suna Korap, from Charles-Hallgarten-Schule conducted a project visit to Frankfurt in collaboration with two local schools: IGS Nordend and Charles-Hallgarten-Schule. The aim of the visit was to gain deeper insights into teaching practices, the use of digital tools developed within the Atollo project, as well as teacher experiences and institutional perspectives on inclusive and digital education.
Research Methodology
Focus Group Interviews
During the visit, the team conducted three focus group interviews, bringing together both teachers and students to discuss their experiences with learning practices and the use of digital tools in the classroom. These discussions provided valuable perspectives on the challenges and opportunities that digital educational content presents in diverse learning environments.
Classroom Observations
In addition to the focus groups, the team also carried out classroom observations, which allowed us to see first-hand how teaching and learning were organized and how digital resources were integrated into everyday practice. The observations offered important contextual understanding and complemented the perspectives raised during the interviews.
Leadership Discussions
The visit also included conversations with school leadership, providing further insight into how each institution develops strategies for inclusive teaching and digital learning. Leadership perspectives highlighted policy frameworks, resource allocation, and long-term goals for supporting teachers and learners in the transition toward more digitally supported education.
Project Impact and Next Steps
Overall, the Frankfurt visit was an important step in the Atollo project’s ongoing work with piloting and evaluating digital educational content. The data collected from interviews, observations, and leadership discussions will contribute directly to the forthcoming analyses and project deliverables, particularly D4.1: A report summarising the findings of the pilot testing.
